Built with gold is my lovely cage
Diamond studded, my safe place
My only shelter, full of warmth
With all the luxury of this world
They feed me the best, clothe me well
Let me sing, teach me truth
Why is this warmth and all this love
If I am to be bound by golden bars?
My wings can’t spread; they have no use
My melodies are heard by no one but you
I stay in my cage, watch and cry
All the others fly in the wide sky
I wonder how it feels to be
One of many, just to be free
But born in cage, I know not how
To face the world on my own
So I remain in this cage of mine
Oblivious of wrong or right.
Tired of fighting the ones who love me
In darkness I stay
Till it breaks in dawn or it breaks me…
